About Our Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
Overview
A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel tests across the spectrum for a full-picture sense of what’s up with your health. By looking at specific blood level concentrations of electrolytes and minerals - such as sodium, potassium, and calcium, among other things - the CMP panel is able to evaluate the function of multiple organsm and see how it all functions together. Because of its multipurpose personality, the CMP is used to evaluate liver function, kidney function, nutrient levels, and more. Focus on liver function is key: since the liver controls our body’s metabolism and detoxification processes, looking at how it’s doing will give us a great overall sense of our health. Specifically, the CMP focuses on: Glucose, a sugar and energy source; Calcium, a crucial mineral for the nerves, muscles, and heart; Sodium, potassium, carbon dioxide, and chloride - electrolytes that control the pH of the body; Albumin, a liver protein; ALP (alkaline phosphatase), ALT (alanine transaminase), and AST (aspartate aminotransferase), all liver enzymes; Bilirubin, a liver waste product; BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and creatinine, waste products removed from your blood by your kidneys.

Symptoms
A CMP is often done as part of a regular checkup. You may also need this test if your health care provider thinks you have liver or kidney disease.
When To Check
The CMP panel should be done on an annual basis, as a general wellness checkup. Feeling down? Fatigued, or like something is off? A CMP could be the key bit of data you’ve been missing. Get your CMP done if you are feeling weak or tired; if you’re sensing inflammation; if you are noticing abnormal bleeding or bruising on your body; if your doctor or primary healthcare provider recommends it.
